Mortgage Villains in Canada: An Angry Mortgage Podcast, Featuring Julian Renaud

It worked. The advocacy from me and other members of the legal profession to reform the law such that HVAC scams would become impossible to perpetrate resulted in the effective elimination of Notices of Security Interest based on consumer goods from the Land Titles system. As a result, the plethora of companies that cheated seniors out of tens of thousands of dollars apiece have lost the primary tool that they abused to financially harm homeowners, and many of the scammers have deservedly ceased operation entirely.

This edition of the Angry Mortgage Podcast begins with a follow-up to the previous edition in which Ron Butler and I sat down to discuss the scams that target seniors using Notices of Security Interest as leverage to extort them for outlandish sums of money. We then discuss other abuses with which we have each dealt in the mortgage industry that target financially vulnerable people and the equity that they have in their homes. We each provide advice on how to avoid falling prey to predatory mortgage brokers and lenders. Enjoy.
